Is it safe to visit the dentist during the COVID-19 pandemic? It's a fair and valid question. Personally, I know I was very nervous when I went back to work in early June of 2020.
The good news is that so far, there have been zero instances of any respiratory disease transfer from patient to dentist or dentist to patient, including COVID-19 in a dental office. Dentists have been working across the globe since the pandemic started and to date, COVID-19 has not spread due to any dental visit.
As it turns out, our existing infection control regulations work extremely well. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has spelled out how to maintain a safe environment in a dental setting and regularly verifies these policies are being met by all dental practices across the United States. You can be assured that we would not be open nor feel comfortable treating you unless we were going above and beyond recommended safety guidelines.
Additional infection control policies at Spring Hill Dental include:
- All Spring Hill Dental employees are fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
- Anyone with COVID-19 symptoms is asked to reschedule, including staff.
- We see fewer patients per hour, so everyone can stay farther apart in the office.
- Providers wear protective equipment, including surgical Grade III masks and/or N95s.
- We've placed Levoit True HEPA air purifiers in our rooms.
- Contact surfaces are sanitized with a safe virucidal, bactericidal, and fungicidal agent.
- Each room has windows and we keep them open when possible to increase circulation.
- Each instrument we use on a patient is sterilized in an autoclave.
- I personally keep abreast with any updates regarding COVID-19 safety from the Center for Disease Control, the American Dental Association, and the Massachusetts Dental Society.
We're in this together. We will continue to keep you safe while providing exceptional dental care.
Take care,
Dr. Kaushish
